PACIFIER Change Name Back To SHIHAD: 'We Were Wrong'
September 18, 2004New Zealand's PACIFIER have officially changed their name back to their previous moniker, SHIHAD. At the time of the initial name change (March 2002),the band attributed their decision to SHIHAD's similarities to the Islam word for Holy War, "jihad."
In explaining the latest switch, the band formerly known as PACIFIER wrote on their web site, "The writing process [for the upcoming album] has brought us closer as a band than we have been for several years, and that being the case we are going to continue as we began — under the name SHIHAD.
"The events surrounding the name change and our choice to be known as
PACIFIER are well documented," the band continued. "As much as we believed in what we were doing, and the reasons for doing it at the time — the truth is we were wrong."
SHIHAD will leave New Zeland on Monday (Sept. 20) to begin recording their sixth album, entitled "Love is the New Hate", in Vancouver, B.C. with producer Garth Richardson (MUDVAYNE, SPINESHANK, KITTIE, SPINESHANK). A new single is expected before the end of the year with the full-length CD to follow in early 2005. An MP3 sample of demos recorded for the new album is available for download at this location.
